Custom tools and AI

Custom tools, integrations and AI automation for online stores.

I build the back-office tools around a store and the integrations that connect it to other systems: PHP and MySQL tools, supplier API inventory sync, spreadsheet imports, and REST and GraphQL integrations. I also build AI chatbots and workflow automations for repetitive office tasks.

What I do

The kinds of work I do on this, with examples from real projects.

  1. Inventory sync and price comparison

Tools that pull supplier API data into a store and compare prices, with spreadsheet imports using PhpSpreadsheet.

  2. Integrations

REST and GraphQL integrations between a store and other systems, including ActiveCampaign and CallRail.

  3. A Shopify app

I have built a Shopify app with background jobs and an audit trail. That is the kind of work for anything that has to run on a server.

  4. WordPress plugins

Plugins for form sync and contact bars.

  5. AI chatbots and automations

Chatbots and workflow automations for repetitive office tasks, with n8n among the tools. I start from the task that costs the most time.

Shopify Plus Sep 2025 to Jun 2026

Cosmo Together

I took over storefront engineering for a Shopify Plus store that sells the JrTrack smartwatch for kids, and led the three developers working on it.

  • Owned the Shopify Plus theme: custom sections and Online Store 2.0 templates for product, collection and landing pages.
  • Built the JrTrack 5 product and activation pages, plus collections and add-ons.
  • Set up Recharge subscriptions and checkout validation.
  • Worked on the headless activation flow and its API integrations.

WordPress Sep 2024 to present

Dewitt Law Firm

I run web engineering for the firm's WordPress and Shopify sites: fixes, new pages, tracking, SEO and the daily work of keeping them stable.

  • WordPress development, theme and plugin work, landing and service pages.
  • Technical SEO: H1 corrections, Search Console issues, robots.txt and call-to-action improvements.
  • Analytics and tracking setup, speed and Core Web Vitals work.
  • Hosting support, migrations and production issue resolution.

Is this a fit?

An honest check before you write to me. If it is not a fit, I will say so and, where I can, point you to what is.

A good fit

  • A store or office with a repetitive task that eats hours every week
  • Systems that should talk to each other but do not, such as a supplier feed and your catalog
  • A feature that needs a server, a queue or an admin screen, which a theme cannot do

Probably not a fit

  • A feature a theme setting or an installed app already covers. I will point you to it.
  • A request to add AI with no task in mind. It helps to start from the task that costs the most time.

Plain scope

AI is not the answer to every problem. If a spreadsheet formula, an existing app or a small script does the job, I will say so. I do not promise AI results. I describe what a tool does and how we will check that it works.

How a project starts

Most work begins the same way: something is slow, something broke after an update, or the checkout is losing people. I find the cause, fix it, and show you the before and after.

  1. Review

I look at the store, its theme and apps, and find what is causing the problem.

  2. Plan

You get a written list of what is wrong, in priority order, with an estimate for each item.

  3. Build

Changes are made on a staging copy, reviewed, and then released.

  4. Check and hand over

I measure again, send before and after numbers, and document what changed.

Who it suits

  • Shopify and Shopify Plus brands with a live store and real orders
  • WooCommerce and WordPress sites that have outgrown their build
  • Agencies that need a senior engineer behind their designs

The usual first step is a fixed-scope technical review plus the top-priority fixes, delivered in one to two weeks. Larger builds and ongoing work follow from there.

Common questions

The things people ask before they write. If yours is not here, ask it in the form.

What kinds of custom tools do you build?

PHP and MySQL tools for back-office work, supplier API inventory sync and price comparison, spreadsheet imports, REST and GraphQL integrations, a Shopify app with background jobs and an audit trail, and WordPress plugins for form sync and contact bars.

Do you build AI chatbots?

Yes. I build AI chatbots and workflow automations for repetitive office tasks, with n8n among the tools. I start by asking which task costs you the most time, and I tell you if a simpler tool would do.

Can you connect my store to another system?

I have built REST and GraphQL integrations, including ActiveCampaign and CallRail, and supplier API syncs. Tell me which systems are involved and what should move between them, and I will tell you after a short review whether it is practical.

Do I need a custom app, or will a theme feature do?

If the feature is about showing information on a page, a theme section and metafields often do the job. You need an app when something has to run on a server. The guide to custom Shopify app development cost explains the difference.

Guides that help

Free write-ups of how I approach this kind of problem. Read them whether or not you hire me.

Tell me what's not working.

Send the store address and a few lines about the problem. I'll reply with what I think is causing it, what I'd do first, and whether I'm the right person for the job.
